Known in folk tradition as the “singers’ herb”, Erysimum is a useful remedy for the painful symptoms linked to dryness and inflammation of the larynx and pharynx and to vocal cord fatigue, such as loss of voice, hoarseness and cough. It is considered the remedy of choice for laryngitis caused by vocal strain; among opera singers the use of this remedy has never been forgotten, and it is still used today to keep the voice always in tune. In medicinal herbalism, erysimum is specific for inflammatory states of the respiratory tract, in particular hoarseness, a weak voice and loss of voice.
