The functions of the liver are many and concern the digestion of food, the body’s defences and the elimination of toxic substances. It is very vulnerable: damage and dysfunction can be caused by alcohol abuse, viral infections, smoking, medication and an excess of fat in the diet. An intoxicated liver can compromise our metabolism, with serious repercussions on the digestion of fats. This can be caused by factors such as obesity, alcohol abuse, continuous use of medication, air pollution, etc. To purify and detoxify the liver naturally it is a good idea to drink plenty of water during the day, which is needed to cleanse the liver and kidneys.

Dandelion has a remarkable draining and purifying action, which works by activating bile secretion and increasing diuresis. It also promotes the elimination of substances harmful to the body, prevents the formation of gallstones and has a cholesterol-lowering action. Artichoke stimulates bile excretion and promotes its flow into the duodenum; it also has a good protective and detoxifying action on the liver and, as a consequence, lowers blood cholesterol. Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is known above all for its extraordinary liver-protective, antioxidant and detoxifying properties, thanks to the presence of an active principle called silymarin, which promotes liver regeneration, stimulates protein synthesis and helps repair damaged liver tissue.

Vitamin B7, or Inositol, prevents too much fat from building up in the liver and helps the brain overcome depressive states and states marked by excessive physical and mental stress. By counteracting the deterioration of nerve cells, it also helps maintain memory, and is therefore also useful for older people.

Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the active form of glutathione, essential for cellular redox balance and antioxidant defence. It is the form that neutralises free radicals and supports detoxification, immunity and cellular protection.
